Moka had a great time Friday night watching the livestream of the Crufts 2022. The world-famous Crufts dog show sees thousands of dogs compete to take home the coveted Best in Show prize. Moka and I were able to kick-back and relax after a long week, and Moka even seemed to have a particular interest in the dog agility competition.
I used this year's show as an opportunity to try my hand at live tweeting. The final Twitter Moment was...so-so. Either way, I learned a lot, and even enjoyed the experience.
I've been a fan of dog shows for most of my life, and I have heard from all sides of the gamut in regards to the ethics associated with dog shows. Some people describe shows and and the practices associated with them as cruel. The show’s host, the Kennel Club, has released a statement that they are “committed to ensuring that all dogs have the opportunity to lead healthy, happy lives, with responsible owners”.
I personally think the show is a great way to share the uniqueness, character and beauty of all canines, and I would not want some 'bad apples' or poor owners define the actions of all that attend and compete in dog shows.
Overview of Crufts
Crufts was first started by Charles Cruft in 1886 who was a successful producer of dog biscuits. Since 1886, Crufts has annually welcomed thousands of dogs take part in skill-testing including agility and obedience. The event also offers a trade-show where attendees can learn about new products and buy pet supplies. A really interesting part of the show is Discover Dogs. People can get up close with hundreds of breeds of dog by meeting them in-person and speaking with their owners.
